The Hanukkah story can be found in the 1 Maccabees Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. The books of Maccabees are are considered deuterocanonical books: books that are believed to be historically accurate and valuable but not divinely inspired. In addition, Josephus, a first century historian is a great resource. Josephus' recounting of Hanukkah can be found in Jewish Antiquities, Book 12 Chapter 5 through Book 13 Chapter 7.
